Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It addresses common age-related changes such as droopy eyelids, puffiness, and under-eye bags. In some cases, it can also improve peripheral vision obstructed by sagging skin. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia or analgosedation, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience with minimal downtime.
Blepharoplasty can be quite expensive in the UK, Ireland, and the USA, often accompanied by long waiting times for procedures. As a result, many individuals choose to travel to Prague, Czech Republic, where they can access high-quality care at a significantly reduced cost. Each year over 10,000 patients make the journey to Prague, saving up to 75% on their procedures while enjoying the benefits of a vibrant city known for its medical expertise.
This procedure is ideal for men and women, typically aged 40 and above, who want to address visible signs of ageing around the eyes. Whether you’re bothered by sagging upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or feel that your facial expression no longer reflects how youthful and energetic you feel, blepharoplasty offers a lasting solution. It’s also a good option for those whose drooping eyelids interfere with their vision or daily comfort.

The procedure takes 30-60 minutes, with incisions hidden in the natural creases of the eyelids, ensuring minimal visible scarring. Excess skin is removed, and the incisions are sutured. After surgery, a bandage is placed over the eye, and while some swelling and bruising may occur, these subside in the following days. Rest and cold compresses are recommended, and makeup should be avoided around the eyes for at least a month. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days.
The procedure typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the extent of the surgery. It is performed under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure.
We recommend several days of rest following the surgery and advise avoiding physical exertion and sports activities. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few days. Any visible signs of the procedure should be minimal after a few weeks.
Stitches are removed 7 to 10 days after the surgery. Most patients notice significant improvement in the first few days, and the swelling will gradually disappear. For the first month, we recommend avoiding makeup in the eye area.
Eyelid surgery is ideal for individuals who are in good overall health and have excess skin or puffiness around the eyes. It is particularly popular among those looking to reduce signs of ageing, such as sagging eyelids or under-eye bags. Your surgeon will assess your suitability during the consultation.
The results of eyelid surgery are long-lasting, but as we continue to age, the skin may naturally lose elasticity over time. While the procedure can greatly improve the appearance of your eyelids, it does not stop the ageing process entirely.
